Create Gloss Clinic Setting Perm 1+2, 150 ml, normal or damaged hair

Gloss Clinic Setting Perm is Create's two-step lotion for setting perms: a step-1 reducing lotion and a step-2 fixing lotion, 150 ml each. Create calls it a clinic-concept perm: the hair softens quickly, yet comes out soft, shiny and healthy looking. Both bottles carry the line "Thermo-Activated Protection", and the manufacturer says the protective effect gets stronger when you work with heat.

You choose between two versions. The blue For Normal Hair bottle is for normal, healthy hair. The red For Damaged Hair bottle is for damaged hair. The white step-2 bottle has the same name and purpose in both kits. Pick the version after you have assessed the client's hair.

Create says the formula contains chitosan, hydrolyzed collagen, a natural amino acid complex and peony extract to keep the hair in good shape. The published full ingredient list for step 1 names ethanolamine thioglycolate and cysteine HCl as the reducing agents, with hydrolyzed soy protein, brown algae extract, arginine and sodium cocoyl amino acids among the conditioning ingredients. Step 2 is based on hydrogen peroxide and contains hydrolyzed soy protein, arnica extract and amodimethicone. The manufacturer does not explain how the two step-1 versions differ, and the ingredient lists shown on the two version pages are the same.

The working method is the iron and setting perm one: soften the hair with step 1, rinse, shape the curl with a hot tool, then fix it with step 2. The goal is springy, moving curls that are quick to style.

What are the processing times?

According to the manufacturer: step 1 for 15 minutes under a cap, step 2 for 5-7 minutes, ideally in two applications about 3 minutes apart.

What do I neutralize with?

The kit includes its own hydrogen peroxide step 2. For extra neutralizer, Create makes the Gloss Iron Perm neutralizer 500 ml, which it intends for Gloss iron and setting perms.

Can I use it for a cold rod perm?

The manufacturer only describes the setting and iron perm method and says nothing about cold rod perms.

Safety and storage

Professional use only. Do a sensitivity test before the service. Keep out of the eyes; if contact occurs, rinse with water. Store out of reach of children and away from direct sunlight.

Steps from the manufacturer's instructions:

1. Shampoo and towel dry.
2. Comb step 1 evenly through the hair, cover with a plastic cap and leave for 15 minutes.
3. Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water and remove excess water.
4. Apply a dedicated cream and form the curls with an iron or similar tools.
5. Apply step 2 evenly and leave for 5-7 minutes; the manufacturer recommends two applications about 3 minutes apart.
6. Rinse well and finish with a treatment.

The instructions give the same 15-minute step-1 time for both versions; hair condition is covered by choosing the right version.
