Acetyl Keron Cysteine Wave (아세틸케론 시스테인 웨이브, Acetyl Calon Cysteine on the bottle) is the newer version of Iljin Cosmetic's cysteine perm, made for perms with gentle heat. Each set has a 155 ml Wave Lotion 1 and a 165 ml Wave Neutralizer 2, and it comes in boxes of 30 sets. The manufacturer promises shiny hair and a bouncy curl thanks to its collagen ingredients.

The manufacturer highlights three features. First, acetyl cysteine: according to the manufacturer, it creates a bouncy, clean wave, and the lotion contains 40,000 ppm of it, or about 4%. Second, a cationic polymer: together with protein ingredients it gives, according to the manufacturer, an even wave. Third, collagen and wheat protein: according to the manufacturer, they replenish protein in the hair and leave it bouncy and strong. Besides acetyl cysteine, the lotion contains cysteamine HCl, arginine, amodimethicone, and extracts of ophiopogon root and Chinese quince fruit. The neutralizer is based on hydrogen peroxide.

How it differs. Iljin Keron Cysteine, from the same maker, is the classic cold perm option: cysteine HCl, a single 20-25 minute processing time with no heat, a sodium bromate cream neutralizer and 90 ml bottles. How is acetyl cysteine different from regular cysteine?

The manufacturer does not compare them directly. It says acetyl cysteine gives a bouncy, clean wave. In this formula it works together with cysteamine.

Can it be used without heat?

Both schedules in the manufacturer's instructions include heat at 60 °C or below plus 10 minutes of natural processing. The manufacturer gives no no-heat schedule.

How should it be stored?

Per the warnings on the pack: tightly closed, in a dark place below 15 °C. The hydrogen peroxide neutralizer can turn dark hair brownish, and the manufacturer asks stylists to take this into account beforehand.

• Step 2. Apply step 1 evenly, wind and process. Damaged hair: 7-10 minutes of heat (60 °C or below), then 10 minutes without heat. Normal hair: 10-16 minutes of heat (60 °C or below), then 10 minutes without heat. Adjust the timing during the service by checking the hair.
• Step 3. After the test curl, apply step 2 (neutralizer) for 5-8 minutes.
